For years, the Allen Neighborhood Center has been growing a grassroots effort to enhance the Eastside by attracting businesses, cleaning up the streets and taking care of the neighborhood's most vulnerable citizens.

Joan Nelson has been leading the charge on the Eastside, a tight-knit, diverse community where improvement start at the neighborhood level. She also helped the Center launch a huge sustainability effort that birthed one of the city's most popular seasonal markets and provides a sustainable food source for Eastside neighborhoods.
