New coffee and ice cream shop creates 28 jobs

If you’re not in the mood for coffee, odds are you may be in the mood for ice cream. That’s the idea behind the new Tim Hortons and Cold Stone Creamery restaurant on Okemos Road. The business has only been open since New Year’s Eve, but so far, locals have been responding well to the combination.

“Things are getting better and better every day,” says manager Bujar Dervishaj. “Everyone who has been coming has been sticking with us, and we’re picking up new customers.”

The 3,000-square foot restaurant was remodeled from its former life as a Burger King into the new Tim Hortons and Cold Stone Creamery. In the spring, additional exterior work will renovate the parking lot and landscaping, as well as add an outdoor patio stretching around nearly half the building.

Twenty-seven employees have been hired to staff the new restaurant, and Dervishaj expects to soon hire four or five more. He says the business’ early success is based on a great location with high traffic, and a commitment to fresh food and coffee.

“One thing we guarantee is the always fresh standard,” Dervishaj says. “We dump out our coffee every 20 minutes and brew it again. We bake 24 hours a day to always have fresh donuts.”
