Staff growth follows good numbers at Jackson National Life

It wasn't so long ago that Jackson National Life was celebrating their move to a new headquarters in Okemos to accommodate their expanding staff.

Though the move to their new facility was just in 2000, as soon as nine years later they had something new to celebrate — expanding back into their old facility off of Miller Road in Lansing.

"We had just over 1,000 employees at the time [in 2000]," says Danielle Weller with Jackson National Life. "Now we have 1,811 between the home office in Okemos [and] the Lansing facility."

Weller adds that some Jackson National Life employees are even working from home part time and desk sharing the remainder of the week.

It's no wonder that the company is running out of floorspace as positive financial news has become the norm for Jackson National, which is now among the top three companies in the U.S. in variable annuities. In October, they reported a 37 percent increase in sales during 2010, and the company has recently opened a new, $26.3million data center on Seager St.

Such growth has paralleled the company’s ability to give back to the community.

"It’s not only good for us here at Jackson National," Weller says, "but also good for the Lansing area and our community partners. Last year we gave out over a million dollars in the Lansing area."

With the business continuing to grow, one might begin to wonder if a new new facility is in Jackson National Life’s near future.

"There is certainly the potential that that might happen,” Weller says. “I think we’ve got more growth in our future. So I think time will tell."
