Liquid Web doubles staff, renovates data center

Liquid Web, a Lansing-based managed web hosting company keeps on growing. The company is now averaging about 10 hires a month, a pace that has grown their staff from 150 to 300 in the span of a year. With a newly renovated data center providing space for up to 600, there’s no reason to believe that the growth will do anything but continue.

“We try to stand out in the web industry as always having someone available, 24-7 in the same building as our data is hosted,” says Liquid Web public relations representative Cale Sauter.

Standing out is something Liquid Web has certainly managed to do. Every year since 2007, the company has been named as one INC. Magazine’s 5000 Fastest Growing Companies. Job growth is only one of the ways the company is getting bigger. Liquid Web recently opened a fourth data center in Phoenix, Arizona in addition to renovating the second floor of their 90,000-square foot Data Center 3 in Lansing to accommodate more employees.

“Having a data center in Arizona is a boon because you can locate data in two locations. So if you have [a] natural disaster in one area of the United States, the data is still secure [in another area],” says Sauter. “Most of the growth has been in Lansing though. We are headquartered here and will always be headquartered here.”

Lansing can therefore expect to continue to reap the benefits from Liquid Web’s  rapid and persistent growth – including an expected expansion to Europe in the next five years to better service the company’s many international clients.
