Rum Runners celebrates 15 years, nationwide growth

Fifteen years ago, Rum Runners was just an idea for a different kind of bar in Lansing. This month, the bar celebrates its anniversary - and with seven Rum Runners locations now operating in five states and a solid reputation as a Lansing destination - they have a lot of reasons to party it up.

“When the Lugnuts Stadium came in, it seemed like a good place for an after party club,” says Tim Antes, Promotions Manger/Events Coordinator for Rum Runners. “Lansing was the original Rum Runners. This is where it all started.”

Not long after the tropical themed dueling piano bar opened, Dave Schneider took ownership, and has been at the help ever since. According to Antes, the secret to the bar’s success has been its dedication to variety, entertainment and having a good time.

“The company was based around the dueling piano concept, and that’s bringing in people from all around the state,” says Antes. “We’re a bachelor and bachelorette party headquarters, but I think it’s also the dual bar concept that people like. We have dueling pianos upstairs and a dance club downstairs.”

Rum Runners now employs 21 workers in its Lansing location. The bar will celebrate its anniversary with theme parties throughout the month, such as a Celebrity Style Party, a pig roast anniversary party and a rum tasting.
