The Doctor's Company acquires local physicians' insurance business, retains 110 jobs

The Doctor’s Company is the new face on some familiar services in the Lansing area, and the company expects their new Michigan presence to become an important part of their rapid growth nationwide.

The Doctor’s Company, which has doubled in size over the last five years, acquired the Michigan-based American Physicians Assurance Corporation in East Lansing. The business now employs 110 former AP employees in addition to its more than 600 employees through the US.

“As we grow, we expect this office to serve a critical role as an operational hub for the eastern United States,” says Bill Fleming, regional Vice President, The Doctors Company.

“We find that Michigan is a good place for responsible companies to do business.”

The Doctor’s Company provides medical malpractice insurance to physician and surgeons.
According to Fleming, AP employees became The Doctor’s Company employees after the acquisition in October of 2011. Some employees are currently being retrained for new positions that are being created as part of the company’s expansion strategy.

“Michigan is a market where we have long wanted to do business,” Fleming says.
