MidMichigan Health Lands on list of top U.S. health systems

MidMichigan Health has landed on a list of the top health systems in the country for the second year in a row.

Based in Midland, MidMichigan Health was one of three Michigan hospitals to land on the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals list, and was named in the top 20 percent of health systems nationwide. The study was based on an analysis of 255 organizations. MidMichigan Health MidMichigan Health covers a 12-county region and has medical centers -- along with a variety of other health services -- in Midland, Alma, Clare, and Gladwin.

The designation highlights "that our entire organization is functioning well," says Richard M. Reynolds, president of MidMichigan Health. "The credit for being designated as a top performer by Thomson Reuters goes to our physicians, staff members, and leadership."

MidMichigan Health includes four medical centers, home care and hospice organizations, long-term care facilities, and other services. MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland is designated as a Neuroscience Center of Excellence and has special equipment, which allows medical staff to precisely treat brain tumors. Blue Cross Blue Shield Center also has designated the health center as a Center of Distinction for Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery, and it has the only spine camp in the state that prepares patients for spine surgery.

MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland also has received the HealthGrades Patient Safety Award for seven years in a row. That distinction is shared by 5 percent of hospitals in the nation.

Trinity Health of Novi, and Spectrum Health of Grand Rapids were the other two Michigan hospital systems named to Thomson Reuter's list.
