Midwest Manufacturing to invest $5.9 million in new plant

Incentives were the key leading up to Midwest Manufacturing's decision to locate a new manufacturing facility in the City of Saginaw.

Economic development alliance Saginaw Future announced the Eau Claire, Wis.-based company will be opening a building materials manufacturing plant on Veterans Memorial Parkway in Saginaw.

The company's eye landed on the location as it planned to purchase equipment from the former VanPoppelen Brothers Block company, and move it to an out-of-state location. Instead, the city, Saginaw County, and the state's Michigan Economic Development Corporation combined to extend a Renaissance Zone benefit that would have expired in 2014 until 2020, and convinced Midwest to locate in Saginaw.

"The Renaissance Zone extension was an important factor in bringing this new manufacturer to Saginaw and the region," says Thomas Miller, Jr., economic development specialist for Saginaw Future. "The city, county and the state partnered together to help convince Midwest Manufacturing to locate here in Saginaw, and we are happy to welcome them."

Midwest plans to hire from 25 to 40 new employees, and invest $5.9 million in its new location. It makes siding, roofing, doors, decking, and other building materials as a division of and supplier to Menards stores.
