The patrons of one of Midland's leading community institutions were so eloquent in their praise online that they've secured a sweepstakes win on its behalf.
The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library
won the "I Love My Library" sweepstakes from Taped Editions, Inc., which is a national distributor of audiobooks on CD and preloaded digital players, based in Indianapolis.
As the winner, the library will receive an audiobook collection from Taped Editions worth $500.
The winner was determined via online voting from patrons of hundreds of libraries across the country. To cast their votes, each voter had to describe why their library deserved the award.
Patrons for the Grace Dow library praised its role in the community, which extends far beyond books.
One writes, "This library is the combination of every patron's dreams ... coming up with inventive ways to make the library one of the important hubs of the city for old and young alike." Another says, "I grew up visiting the library on a weekly basis. It is a place that is inviting and community-oriented. Not only does the library welcome readers, but it also opens its doors for all kinds of community events."
Library Director Melissa Barnard says while the award is great, the library staff also was glad to hear such strong support from the community.
"We know that community support for the library is strong, but it is gratifying that our community is willing to step up and outwardly show their love for their library through this contest. We'll continue to work hard to keep that love alive," Barnard says. Writer: Sam Eggleston
