New Traverse City iPhone app sees more than 1,000 downloads in just 25 days

A free new iPhone app that was developed in and is focused on Traverse City is getting a lot of attention.

The app, called Traverse Traveler, hit more than 1,000 downloads in just 25 days. The app, developed by Meal Ticket & Unusual Ideas, is designed to help those who visit the area find some favorite locations, such as wineries, restaurants and tourist attractions.

"We are very happy with the response both by downloads and media reaction," says Brandy Wheeler, the app developer. "Since it's a uber local app and it's in the middle of winter here in northern Michigan, it's a significant number of downloads. It's especially noteworthy because it's a slower time of year compared to the busy summer season. While it was designed for visitors, people stop me in the grocery store and tell me they love the app."

The app helps visitors--and locals, for that matter--do such things as plan a wine tour, with driving directions from one winery to the next, or check on local events, or find hotels and restaurants, or local attractions light museums or a lighthouse.

One attractive addition to the app is that listings are ordered by proximity to the user, so if you're hanging out on the Old Mission Peninsula, then the results nearest your location will show up first.

"Another cool feature," says Wheeler, "If you want to tell your friends about a great microbrew you just tasted, you can post it to Facebook or Twitter or even email info to your friends without leaving the app."

The app is available for free download either through iTunes or on the website.
