TRMI plans to spend $11.1 million and create 153 new jobs in Battle Creek

A new manufacturing process at TRMI, Inc. in Battle Creek is all good news for the city.

The company decided to invest in Battle Creek after looking at possible sites in Indiana and international locations.

TRMI, Inc. a subsidiary of TRAM, a manufacturer of interior electrical automotive switches, will invest $11.1 million and create 153 new jobs at its Battle Creek location where it currently employs about 450 people.

In return, TRMI has been awarded a Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant of $700,000.  The City of Battle Creek is offering a 12-year property tax abatement valued at $712,000.

TRMI has been in Battle Creek for more than 25 years. Officials say the quality of the work force in Battle Creek also factored into the decision to invest there. It produces parts for automobile companies including Ford and Toyota.

The company creates what it calls human Interface' systems and controls that relay human commands to cars, security systems to prevent unlawful entry and safety systems.

The project is one of four in the state recently announced by the Michigan Economic Development Corp. that are expected to generate $14 million in investment and 442 new jobs in the state.

“These projects are the result of outstanding teamwork between the MEDC and our local economic development partners in these communities to secure these projects against some very stiff competition,” says MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney.
