A Maricopa, Ariz.-based company is seeking approvals to proceed with a plant for advanced batteries in Battle Creek that it anticipates could bring 100 new jobs to town.
Next Alternative Inc. plans to retrofit a 35,000-square-foot building at 182 Elm St. The plant is on 8.5-acres of land. The firm has also purchased an adjacent 5.5-acre parcel with thoughts of future expansion.
The building will house office space, as well as a large industrial facility to be used for battery assembly. Also anticipated at the site is research and development as well as the manufacture of M-Fuel Machines that combine oil, water and a proprietary additive.
Next Alternative Inc. expects to hire more than 100 local employees to fill positions, says Peter Law, president of the U.S. division of Next Alternative Inc.
Next Alternative has presented its plans for the site to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) for its review. Plans are expected to proceed, pending approval of state and local incentives.
