#PeopleofPortHuron: April Bynum is known around town as "Your Mortgage Lady" for AmeriFirst Home Mortgage, where she is the branch manager and senior loan originator. To Port Huron and the surrounding area, she is much more than that. April is a Blue Water area native and adores everything the region has to offer. She is committed to giving back to the community and participating in local events. "You name it, I think we have a hand in it," she says. She supports everything when it comes to her two children, Port Huron schools, Boy Scouts, and more. She is also dedicated to supporting Hunter Hospitality House and McLaren Hospital. When it comes to her favorite things about Port Huron, she says the water is best, but what really puts a smile on her face is watching the city blossom. "It's getting trendy," she says of the downtown area. Things like bike rentals and overhead street lighting are inviting new people to visit and explore. The fact that it has become trendy while also keeping an old school feel is perfect. "I can't see why you wouldn't want to be in downtown with the water, the restaurants, the coffee shops, and it's easy to get to. I don't know where we'd rather be, I love it down here." She's looking forward to seeing what the new hotels, like CityFlats will offer. The hotel recently opened its restaurant The Kitchen, and April says it's definitely worth trying. Trying out the newest dining options is great, but April also enjoys places like Chicken in the Rough--which she believes is underrated, Pompeii's, Casey's, Bangkok Star and Vintage Tavern. "Their food is top-notch quality," she says. "I love downtown Port Huron." One thing she can clearly see if the loyalty and support amongst the community. "We support the community and the community supports us, I think that loyalty is unique to Port Huron compared to bigger cities. #PortHuron #downtown #hometown #BlueWaterArea #YourMortgageLady #peopleofporthuron
