New German-inspired restaurant open in Au Train

A new German restaurant and deli is open in Au Train.

Wagener's Delicatessen and Cafe is located at N7601 Arbutus Street in downtown Au Train, and is offering up both eat-in and take-out service, along with deli services.

The new restaurant is inspired by authentic German delicatessens and recipes, and focuses on homemade menu items using products from local farmers, like smoked meats, cheeses and vegetables. Breads, soups, entrees, sausages, salads, and sandwiches all are prepared from authentic German recipes, and the deli part of the restaurant allows customers to bring high-quality prepared foods home or along for the ride.

Wagener's welcomes snowmobilers, ATV riders and other outdoors enthusiasts from its trail-centric location. It's open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and offers weekly specials.

Some of the tempting menu items available include potato and leek soup, pork schnitzel, sauerbraten, bratwurst, German pretzels, and an array of desserts like apple strudel or lemon pound cake. The deli offers specialty wursts, bolognas and cheeses, and some hard-to-find old-world recipes like blood sausage and head cheese.
