Marinette Marine, a major employer in the Menominee-Marinette area, announced this week they will be the primary contractor on a new product for the U.S. Navy, a ship-to-shore connector.
The company will be working with Griffon Hoverwork, Ltd., a British hovercraft manufacturer, and The Boeing Company, on the project, which will replace the current 1980s-designed air cushion for landing craft.
Marinette Marine president and CEO Richard McCreary said Griffon Hoverwork has a long history of pioneering hovercraft technology.

Their rich legacy in hovercraft design, combined with Boeing's expertise in high-tech rotorcraft technology and MMC's proven proficiency in aluminum ship construction, make our team a powerful contender for the U.S. Navy Ship to Shore Program." says McCreary.
Marinette Marine's role in the project will be that of prime contractor and hull form shipbuilder, while Boeing will design and supply propulsion, communication and control systems, while Griffon will add innovation, design and operations expertise. Oceaneering International, Inc. also will be involved in the project, providing craft support and design from its experience with previous ship-to-shore connector maintenance for the Navy.
