Mercantile Bank is just one of several new buildings expanding northern East Lansing’s skyline.
In June 2007, Mercantile Bank finished construction on its new 18,000 square foot building
“We built it so we wouldn’t have to expand it,” says C. Howard Haas, President of Mercantile Bank’s East
Lansing location.
Mercantile Bank of West Michigan, a subsidiary of Mercantile Bank Corporation, started its Michigan presence in Grand Rapids. Haas started working at the Lansing branch in July 2005. At that time, Mercantile’s East Lansing branch was located on Lake Lansing Road.
The bank quickly expanded, causing Haas to look elsewhere for space.
“This part of East Lansing, I truly believe, will be a very strong growth area in the future,” Haas says about the bank’s new Coolidge Road location.
Haas attributes the bank’s success to its involvement in the community.
“We found that there’s a great number of Lansing businesses that prefer to bank with local people who make local decisions and have management that resides in the community.”
