Burgdorf’s Celebrates Four-Year Anniversary with 2,000 Sq Ft Expansion

Burgdorf Winery owners Dan and Deb Burgdorf are celebrating the four-year anniversary of their operation in April by expanding their business by 2,000 square feet.

The 2,000 square foot addition to the Haslett home-based business will allow the Burgdorfs to increase their wine production from 3,000 gallons a year to 10,000 gallons a year. The existing facility is roughly 960 square feet.

“The first three years we saw a doubling in people and sales,” Deb Burgdorf says. Burgdorf expects growth to continue and anticipates the need to hire an additional employee after completing the expansion. She adds that the company will gradually grow to the 10,000 gallon a year production level.

The Burgdorf's will start the expansion this summer. They hope to complete it by the summer of 2010.

“This will allow us to increase wine production so we can get more wine to restaurants and retailers,” she says.

The Burgdorf's sell about 400 cases of wine a year. Burgdorf’s offers 18 wines, the majority of which are created using Michigan grown fruit. Burgdorf’s also hosts wine tastings and allows patrons to make their own wine.

“We really want to keep this location,” Burgdorf says of their 5635 Shoeman Rd. location. “It’s really quaint and small.”
