“If this job wasn’t fun, we wouldn’t be doing it,” says Ben Eysselinck, project manager of East Lansing-based Artemis Solutions Group. The company designs websites for public agencies and educational markets. And there’s room for more employees there, where they do serious work in some great places.
Consider: This week, Eysselinck is in mountain-surrounded Aspen, Colorado, designing a city-county website there. That contract will get worked in with the Stearns County, Minnesota one (northern Minnesota in the summer is akin to northern Michigan’s playground). And then there’s the Lacey, Washington job. (Lacey is a suburb of Olympia, the capital city.)
But Artemis folks do work in the Capital region, too, for accounts like the Greater Lansing Sports Authority. Its Artemis-designed website has just been named the Outstanding Site of the Year by the National Association of Sports Commissions at its conference in Denver. The site beat out 200 others in the small to mid-sized market category. While loaded with information, it has a playful feel, featuring baseball, football, soccer and basketball among other sports.
“We are fortunate to be able to pick and choose from the RFPs (Requests for Proposals) that come through,” Eysselinck said with a chuckle.
It’s taken 13 years for the East Lansing company to build its reputation, says its founder, John Gilkey.
Artemis started with two employees and grew to 50. But with the rapidly changing technological terrain, Gilkey adjusted. About five years ago, he spun off Nuwave Technology Partners which specializes in telephone and network integration, leaving Artemis with 22 employees focusing on large and complex websites. Another offshoot, GreenLite Web Solutions, handles the smaller accounts.
Artemis is always looking for well-qualified people, Gilkey says. The company needs technical project managers, senior application developers, e-marketing specialists, junior Web developers, software developers and development team leaders. Its offices are in the Fifth/Third Bank Building at 2501 Coolidge Rd.
