Sunshine Artist Magazine, a national art magazine, recently ranked East Lansing’s annual art festival the 32nd out of the best 200 art festivals in the nation.
“We have consistently been on this list and we’re usually in the top 50, closer to the higher end of that,” says East Lansing Art Festival's coordinator, Corinn VanWyck. “We usually do pretty well with it. It is a national ranking so it ranks us with not just art fairs in the region but across the nation.”
The magazine ranks 200 national art festivals based on a survey given to the artisans who participate in the festivals. Each artisan is asked several questions about the festivals. They’re asked to rank the quality of the other artists, the balance of the mediums, the prestige of the show, event advertising, management and a variety of other topics.
About 70,000 people attended this year’s East Lansing Art Festival in August.
“The reason this is important to our festival is that it gets the word out to other artists that this is the festival they should be involved in because it’s renowned and receiving recognition from their peers,” she says.
