U-M Hospital named one of the "Most Wired" in the nation

So much time is spent waiting in hospital waiting rooms that the University of Michigan Hospital is offering people the opportunity to take advantage of that time for some work or, even, web surfing.

The U-M Health System has been named as one of the nation's top wireless hospitals in the Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. The survey shows that the 100 Most Wired hospitals in the U.S. provide better patient satisfaction and lower mortality rates because the Wi-Fi environments allow medical professionals to do a better job.

U-M Hospital scored well because of its recent updates to CareLink, which digitized many of the hospitals records as well as efforts to build a new data center for the health system's facilities. The health system also provides free Wi-Fi in its public areas.

The Most Wired Survey focuses on how the nation's hospitals use information technology for quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues. Hospitals & Health Networks magazine has named the most wired hospitals and health systems since 1999 and the most wireless ones since 2002.
