The city of Ann Arbor is gearing up to play it part to bring the Blueprint to End Homelessness in Washtenaw County to fruition this year.
The City Council decided to support an initiative Monday night where the city will partner with Washtenaw County and Ann Arbor-based McKinley Properties to obtain 500 affordable housing vouchers from the federal government. One aspect of the Blueprint to End Homelessness in Washtenaw County is to create 500 new affordable housing units.
The vouchers help subsidize affordable housing by paying the difference between the actual rent and the amount that the individual or family is able to pay, which is typically 30% of the renter’s monthly income. There are currently more than 2,500 people on waiting lists for affordable housing in Washtenaw County.
