DartAppraisal grows staff and revenue 300% in 3 years

Troy-based DartAppraisal has watched its staff and revenue grow 300 percent over the last three years, including a 20-percent jump in 2010.

The online appraisal management firm has been growing as the housing crisis has exploded, handling an increasing load of foreclosures, purchases and refinancing. The firm is now handling work in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, and has new employees in Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, Minnesota and Florida.

"The buying activity is definitely helpful," says Marko Berishaj, vice president of DartAppraisal. "So are the current (low interest) rates. We are receiving help from both of those fronts."

DartAppraisal spun out of Oakland Mortgage in 1989 and now handles online appraisals for refinancing, purchases and foreclosures. It has added about half a dozen jobs, expanding its staff to 40 employees and the occasional intern in the last year. Headcount is up by 10 since we last checked in during the fall of 2009.

The company expects to double its revenue within the next three years. "We're going to hire enough people to get there," says Berishaj.
