Physicians Technology hires 6, pain relief device nearly doubles annual sales goal

Physicians Technology is enjoying higher than expected sales figures for the first year of production of its WilloMD, a machine that helps relieve knee pain.

The Monroe-based company started selling WilloMD earlier this year. Sales have been nearly 100 percent higher than the company has projected. That has allowed it to hire six people in 2010, rounding out its staff to seven. It hopes to continue to hire in 2011.

"We're getting a very enthusiastic response," says David Sutton, CEO of Physicians Technology.

WilloMD basically looks like half a donut that fits around a knee. The machine stimulates physiological functions that relieve knee pain. It was originally designed for people who people who couldn't physically tolerate traditional methods, such as pain killers.

Physicians Technology claims that 90 percent of users claim WilloMD is effective. Users put the machine over their knee for 25 minutes a day and relax. The expected result is short-term pain relief.

"Our goal is to help these folks perform better whether it's sports or picking up their grandchildren," Sutton says. "We want to help them pursue their passion."
