A new study enumerates the significant impact that the motor vehicle
supplies industry has to the nation's economy. The study, the first of
its kind,
will arm suppliers with proof of their import in negotiations with
local, state and federal agencies.

According to the study, motor vehicle suppliers — including automotive
suppliers, heavy-equipment parts suppliers and aftermarket parts
suppliers — directly employ 783,100 U.S. workers, and every supplier
job creates 4.7 more jobs in the economy. That eclipses the total
direct employment by U.S. automakers, which David Cole, chairman of the
Ann Arbor-based Center for Automotive Research, said is about 400,000.
