Clean up time: Michigan gets funding to tidy up 47 old auto sites for redevelopment

It's spring cleaning time! Michigan just received some big-time cash to clean up 47 former automotive sites for redevelopment.

The White House Council on Automotive Communities and Workers announced an $800 million investment to put former auto facilities back into productive use, creating jobs and economic growth in communities across the country, including Michigan.

The funds will be allocated among more than 90 sites located in 14 states and include additional pooled funding that will be available to all sites owned by Old GM  as needed to cover unforeseen costs.

Michigan will garner the most funds of any state under the trust fund. Of the 90 sites covered by the plan, 47 are in Michigan.  Affected communities include Bay City, Burton, Detroit, Flint, Lansing, Lansing Twp., Livonia, Mt. Morris, Pontiac, Romulus, Saginaw, Van Buren Twp., Wyoming and Ypsilanti.
