Michigan has natural assets - let's use 'em

We're surrounded by water, right? We have a beautiful land, great fisheries, beaches on both sides. These are natural assets and Michigan should use them to boost the economy.

The prudent policy path for Michigan is to recognize our environment as a valuable asset and to clearly articulate an appropriate balance among conservation, public health and economic growth. A manifesto of this sort can create a roadmap for Michigan to protect its environmental assets while also utilizing them for economic growth.

We have a competitive advantage in that our surface water is plentiful and high quality. This can significantly reduce a water-intensive company's cost of doing business, if permitting requirements are not oppressive.

This process starts with giving less credence to the fringes of the various interest groups that currently have big bullhorns and attempt to frame this debate as one of natural beauty vs. pollution, or property rights vs. socialism, or a healthy populace vs. an endangered one.
