Ferndale-based S3 Entertainment Group hopes to open a film studio and training facility at the Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit as well as bring back the State Fair, company officials said Tuesday, but it is not a done deal.
The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority first has to decide whether it will proceed with a proposal to take over 120 acres of the state-owned fairgrounds. The seven-member authority's board is expected to make a decision at a May 13 meeting, HCMA Director Jane Miller said.
The metropark is the preferred plan for the fairgrounds, said Kurt Weiss, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, the state agency handling the State Fairgrounds.
Two of the Metropark authority board members are appointed by the governor. The remaining five members are each chosen by the county commissions of Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, Livingston and Washtenaw counties.
