Merrill Engineering gets state safety award

Merrill Engineering and Integration in Saginaw has met some pretty strict standards in safety to receive the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration's CET Gold Award for an outstanding safety and health record.

The CET award comes from MIOSHA's Consultation, Education and Training division, and is given to companies who go two years or more without a lost-time accident, among other criteria. Merrill did even better than that, going more than three years without one.

The award was received by chief operating officer and VP Jeff Yackel at an award presentation.

"On behalf of Merrill Technologies Group, I would like to congratulate our general manager and staff at our Merrill Engineering and Integration facility on a great job of achieving the Gold Award. At Merrill Technologies Group we consider the safety of our employees the most important part of our business. The achievement of this award is recognition of the involvement of all our employees and their participation in creating a safe work place. We would also like to acknowledge Kelvin Willoughby, our safety manager, with a job well done," says Yackel.

Merrill is considered to be part of a high-hazard manufacturing industry, as it makes plant operations systems for industries like robotics, aerospace, oil and gas, alternative energies, chemical processing and others.

The other criteria Merrill had to meet to receive the Gold Award were developing and implementing a comprehensive safety and health management system, creating a safety and health committee, developing an employee safety and health training system, and changing workplace culture to emphasize worker safety.
