New Whirlpool office campus opens in Benton Harbor

Whirlpool Corp.’s new Riverview campus in downtown Benton Harbor, designed to consolidate 15 owned and leased properties into three centralized campuses, opened April 30.

Construction on the offices began in November 2010. It represents an investment of $70 million by the company. The Riverview Campus, at 600 W. Main Street, covers 245,275 square feet on an 11.9 acre site. The company says the new campus allows it to deliver improvements in productivity, operations, energy efficiency, and an overall improved employee experience.

The campus is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council and is seeking LEED Gold certification.

The three campuses now include the existing Administrative Center and Technology Center Campuses, and the multiple building Riverview Campus. The company also plans to keep its Hilltop South offices at 150 Hilltop Road in St. Joseph and the Harbor Town offices at 145 East Main Street, Benton Harbor.

Whirlpool Corp. is the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances, with annual sales of approximately $19 billion in 2011, 68,000 employees, and 66 manufacturing and technology research centers around the world.

"With the opening of this beautiful and spacious campus, we are looking forward to a continued future with the city of Benton Harbor, which we have been proud to call home for over 100 years," says Jeff Fettig, chairman and chief executive officer for Whirlpool Corp.
