The city council is expected to make a decision on if there will continue to be three ferry services, or just two.

Mackinac Island Mayor Margaret Doud said she would like the island's government to make a decision as quickly as possible. But she said the process is being slowed by Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry, whose service effectively would be ended under a proposal by Arnold Transit Co. that would give it and Star Line Mackinac Island Ferry a 20-year exclusive agreement starting in April.
