New 1,100 Sq Ft Katalyst Art Gallery Opens in Old Town

Sarah Christiansen is not new to the Lansing area, or its art scene. She worked for the Lansing State Journal as a graphic arts designer and then at Seasons in Okemos before deciding to take the plunge and open her own gallery.

Christiansen’s new gallery, Katalyst, is located at 1214 Turner Street in Old Town. The space is unique, offering a crisp, modern flair that's influenced by her experience in graphic design.

“When I was trying to decide on a name, I wanted something that spoke of what I wanted my gallery to represent,” says Christiansen. “I wanted to be a catalyst, [a driving force] behind art and design. I thought that the Lansing area was lacking in a place to find modern and graphic art/home decor and I was hoping that my gallery would provide some inspiration.”

Being a first-time business owner, Christiansen is excited to provide the area with a new outlet to enjoy creativity and art.

“I'm excited everyday to come to work because I'm doing what I love — creating art and meeting a lot of really great people along the way,” says Christiansen.

Katalyst plans to have a grand opening celebration on Saturday, Nov. 6.
