East Lansing and MSU to Partner on New $30 Million Museum

The City of East Lansing, Michigan State University (MSU) and several private donors have contributed more than $26 million to a $30 million art museum that will be constructed on Grand River Ave and Collingwood Dr. in downtown East Lansing.

The majority of the money was donated by private investors; however, East Lansing gave $50,000 to MSU for the project.

"We don't have any formal study on it, but the new museum is bound to draw more visitors to the area," says East Lansing Mayor Pro Tem Victor Loomis. "That alone will bring more opportunity for the existing business community to provide services to additional visitors that come to see the museum."

The city has also set up a $50,000 grant that will be available to business startups that want to be a part of the art district centered around the new museum.

MSU is still mulling over proposed architectural plans for the building, which is slated to be completed by 2010.
