Auburn Dalle expands staff 300 staff, moves into Old Town office

After more than 30 years working in civil engineering in both the public and private sectors, Maureen Turner knew it was time to strike out on her own. The best timing for her, however, was not the best time for the economy.

“It’s been an interesting and eye-opening experience to start a new business in the middle of an recession,” she says.

Regardless, her civil engineering business, Auburn Dalle, has been growing. What started out as a one-woman home business has tripled in staff since September, and recently celebrated their November move into their new, 1,500 square foot Old Town office.

“Old town is a wonderfully friendly place,” Turner says. “We were looking for a place with character, and people here are great.”

People, in fact, have been the key to Auburn Dalle’s success despite a tough economy. Creating partnerships with similar firms have allowed Turner and the other agencies to combine resources and benefit all parties. One established firm in particular reached out to Turner shortly after her opening, not as competitors, but as partners.

“We got our heads together and thought about what they could do and what we could do,” she says. “We were able to dovetail our services into the same projects to the benefit both of us.”

Auburn Dalle celebrated its opening with an Old Town-wide ribbon cutting with eight other new businesses in May.
