Liquid Web Invests $200,000 in Network Capacity Between Lansing and Chicago

Lansing-based Liquid Web, the web hosting provider, has injected $200,000 worth of network upgrades and equipment purchases into its Chicago facility. The move allows Tier 1 bandwidth connectivity back to Lansing over the company’s fiber optic equipment, says Travis Stoliker, spokesman.

In essence, the move allows cheaper bandwidth pricing, enabling the company to double its customers’ bandwidth without charge.

“What we’ve done is the equivalent of your cell phone provider upping your minutes from 1,000 to 2,000 for free,” Stoliker says.

By adding more fiber optic wire to the Chicago-Lansing corridor, Liquid Web has invested in the community as well as in its customers.

“Any time a company adds fiber to the area, be it ACD.net or Jackson National Life or Liquid Web, it adds additional capacity to the region. And there is always capacity left over for others, ultimately lowering prices. In the end, it makes Internet service faster and cheaper for all,” Stoliker says.

Meanwhile, the company continues to grow. It has completed construction of its third Lansing data center, although the grand opening has not yet occurred.

Its growth is reflected in its recognition by Inc. Magazine in early September as one of the 5,000 fastest growing companies, based on revenue growth last year compared with 2005. Liquid Web was listed as 899th, with a 341 percent surge in revenue to $20.3 million.
