DeWitt's Sweetie-licious Pies Win Four Awards at 2010 National Championships

Sweetie-licious’ Linda Hundt has done it again. The owner of the Dewitt-based bakery and café returned from the 2010 American Pie Council Crisco National Pie Championships in Celebration Florida with three more first-place wins and a second-place win.

Two of Hundt's unique pie recipes, Grandpa Ferrell’s Cherry Rhubarb and Aunt Margie’s Banana Cream, both won first place in the commercial division, competing against other small bakeries across the nation. Ellie’s Cherry Blackberry Peach and County Fair Candy Apple won in the professional division, competing against other professional pie bakers and pastry chefs across the country.

“I think we are successful because we don't cut corners. We truly make each pie like our mothers and grandmothers did,” Hundt says. “Each filling and crust is completely homemade with the best ingredients—real butter, cream and, as much as possible, delicious Michigan fruit.”

Hundt and Sweetie-licious have won six first-place prizes in the cherry category, including her 2009 Best of Show Food Network Pie Challenge winner, Tom’s Cheery Cherry Cherry Berry Pie.

“Most importantly," Hundt adds, "we love making delicious pies, serving and loving all of our sweet customers and making Michigan proud.”
