East Lansing Elementary School Teaches Technology With Legos

Donley Elementary School in East Lansing has created a Lego team that encourages students who are interested in technology, math and robotics to pursue their passion.

According to excerpts from the article:

Nine-year-old T.J. Hunt said he builds Lego spaceships all the time, but he never thought he'd get to build a robot out of the tiny pieces

But after joining Donley Elementary School's new Lego team this spring, he is one of eight fourth-graders building robots who will compete this school year as part of the international First Lego League.

"I like Legos a lot. It's challenging, but it's super fun," said T.J., of East Lansing. "I've always been interested in mechanics and stuff, so it'll be fun to build stuff like this. I never thought I would get the chance to."

T.J. and several other kids met last week for a team practice in a classroom on the Michigan State University campus. For one exercise, they calculated the number of wheel rotations it would take a robot to travel from point to point and how many degrees it would need to turn.
