Neuro Fitness opens in Ann Arbor as first step in U.S. expansion plan

Neuro Fitness Wellness Center is opening its second location in Ann Arbor, and it's the first step toward a nationwide expansion across the U.S.

The Southfield-based business works to relieve stress and improve the health of its clients by combining technology (think cryogenics) with relaxation techniques, such as floating or relaxing in rooms with walls and floors made of salt.

"They (customers) will see a combination of services they have never seen before," David McCullar, co-founder & CEO of Neuro Fitness Wellness Center. "Those services will be very technologically advanced."

The 9-year-old company's new Ann Arbor office, which opened in March, is located at 6360 Jackson Road. Neuro Fitness Wellness Center’s leadership choose Ann Arbor because one of its co-founders, Mark Kelley, lives in the area and knows it is welcoming to holistic healthcare treatments.

The new Ann Arbor location will offer a variety of services, such as its IMPACT Cryotherapy system. The firm describes it as a system where the "participant steps inside the platform and is surrounded by nitrogen vapor, which drops the chamber’s temperature to between negative 100 and 150 degrees Celsius. Lasting just three minutes, the treatment lowers the temperature of the skin's top layer and has been shown to aid in muscle recovery and a general feeling of well-being."

Neuro Fitness Wellness Center's Ann Arbor center will also offer its version of Himalayan salt caves, i.e. rooms with walls and floors made entirely of salt. The idea is clients using the room for an hour will reduce stress and improve breathing ailments, such as asthma and bronchitis. There will also be a float room, which is dense spa where users can float in water with Epsom salt, giving them the feeling of zero gravity, enabling them to relieve stress.

"I am booked three weeks out for floating therapy right now," McCullar says. "There has been at least a 200-percent increase in demand since we got that up and running in 2014."

Which is why Neuro Fitness Wellness Center is growing. Its new Ann Arbor location employs seven people and its working to move its headquarters/first location to a bigger facility in Farmington Hills. There are also plans to open facilities in Tulsa, Oklahoma and south Florida.
