Tattoo boutique, clothing store to open in downtown Ypsilanti

A new boutique is scheduled to open in downtown Ypsilanti next month, and it promises to be a bit more than the average retail operation. Vivid Inks will offer intricate, high-end tattoos and piercing services along with clothing, jewelry and other art.

"We have the square footage to accommodate more than just tattoos and piercings," says Eric Downs, co-owner of Vivid Inks. "We're going to have a very clean and contemporary design."

Downs is opening Vivid Inks with Cory Torrans. Downs will handle the business side of the venture while Torrans will serve as the artist. They are also looking to hire another tattoo artist and piercer before they open in March or shortly after opening.

The shop and studio will be located at 133 W Michigan Ave, Suite 102, and occupy 1,350 square feet. Along with studio space for tattoos and piercings, there will be clothing, jewelry, and retail items that will complement or show off tattoo art.

"It's a custom-cut style to accentuate the tattoos," Torrans says.

Vivid Inks found downtown Ypsilanti to be the prime location after searching out other options across Washtenaw County. The price point, lease terms, and location in an up-and-coming city center was just too good to pass up.

"This was the perfect location," Downs says. "We got the square footage and we got exactly what we wanted."
