New Eagle plans to hire 10 engineers in Ann Arbor

New Eagle, which makes automotive fuel efficiency technology, is gaining traction in its market and expanding its workforce.

The Ann Arbor-based start-up specializes in creating electronic control modules (think of the computer systems that help make your car run) for hybrids and their supporting engineering services. It is continuing to grow sales of its core products and expand into specialty parts.

New Eagle recently got a piece of a larger deal between General Motors and Freightliner for its technology worth millions of dollars. That has allowed the three-year-old firm to expand its staff to 20 employees, two independent contractors and two interns. It expects to double its engineering staff by adding 10 jobs over the next year as sales grow.

"That (GM, Freightliner deal) gave us great visibility," says Rich Swortzel, president of New Eagle. "We have been picking up other programs since then."

New Eagle is working to develop more of its own products. To accomplish that, the company plans to raise a round of seed capital and form strategic partnerships with other companies.
