Ann Arbor's UNIVAL prepares for rapid growth, plans to hire 10

UNIVAL has been around for a minute (23 years actually) but the Ann Arbor-based firm expects to continue to change and grow with the times.

The company employs 25 people in Ann Arbor and another 200-250 nurses across the U.S. Those employees specialize in data collection in the health-care industry. Not only were they were able to keep their heads above water during last year's financial meltdown, they expect to 10 people this year thanks to the federal stimulus pumping a lot of money into the digitization of medical information.

"This is absolutely the most [successful] period and I have been here the whole time," says Mike Gallagher, president of UNIVAL. "We have the right products and services at the right time."

UNIVAL specializes in data collection, acquisition and management of medical information, primarily for insurance firms. It has a number of health-care industry niches it expects to exploit when more stimulus money starts to flow later this year.

"We do see rapid growth potential on the horizon," Gallagher says.
