Ann Arbor's VeoProject organizes virtually, adds 4-6 positions

VeoProject is in the process of taking its third step. The first two --creating the project-management product and getting someone to use it-- are done. Turning their Internet software into a household name is the next step in their run for the big time.

VeoProject, created by Ann Arbor-based Bitcarvers, is a lot like Microsoft Project. It helps users manage projects, tasks and their everyday worklife ...except its done from a website. This allows users to access it from anywhere they can get an Internet connection. In comparison, Microsoft Office is run from a single computer or system.

"It's really easy to do something because it's online, so you have easy access to documents and you can coordinate from anywhere," says John Wyderko, chief technology officer of VeoProject.

The idea is to make it appealing to business travelers far from their home computing base or telecommuters working from home. Video examples of how it works are available here.

The year-old company is finding traction with the project. Last year only a half dozen people were using the Beta version of the product. Today there are more than 100. That has allowed Bitcarvers to double its employee base from three to six employees. The firm hopes to add another 4-6 jobs in the next year and increase the number of contractors it works with.

If things go as planned, it will be one big step of the VeoProject-kind.
