PublicCity PR leverages client growth for new office space

A little more than three years ago, Jason Brown started PublicCity PR out of his home in Beverly Hills. Today, he has grown it to the point that working from home no longer makes sense, forcing him to move his public relations firm and its small team of independent contractors into its first office in Southfield.

"I didn't want them to hang out at my house on a daily basis," says Brown, founder of PublicCity PR. "It was time."

Brown started PublicCity PR as an alternative to the larger public relations agencies in the region. Before going off on his own, Brown, a graduate of Michigan State University, worked as a journalist.

Today PublicCity PR has an expanding list of local clients. Some of the newer ones include Zoup and Coffee Beanery. That has allowed Public City PR to grow its team to three people and a couple of interns. Brown hopes to add one or two more people this year.

"I really don't want this to be more than a five-person team," Brown says. "I want this to be a small but nimble business. Who knows what the future holds. The work will determine how we grow."
