Owned by Louis "Lou" Bowers and Annie Jelenik, the storefront is home to handmade soaps, bath bombs, lip balms and lotions and more. Soapmaking started has a hobby for Lou and Annie and they opened their storefront in downtown Port Huron about four years ago. There's definitely something for anyone who ventures into the store, Lou says. There lots of bright and coloful soaps, featuring a variety of scents. Each is handmade in the back of store from one of three recipes. Each recipe is a seven-oil blend that is vegetable based. Soaps run the gamut from a basic bar, to froot loops, vanilla and pumpkin. Soaps are also available in a vegan blend, as well as goat's milk. Lou is excited to watch his business grow to include an online shop, craft shows, farmers markets and even the Michigan Renaissance Festival. This year, he's honored to be a part of the Urban Craft Show in Detroit. Although it's not in the Blue Water area, Lounies is one of 102 vendors invited to the Detroit event.The Port Huron native is dedicated to downtown because it is his home and he feels like he's part of the beginning of a downtown boom. "I feel like I'm part of the beginning of a new renaissance for downtwon, and I'm helping to bring it back," he says. He enjoys checking out the new businesses, like Moe's Deli, that offers a great sandwich. He's also a big fan of Fuel Woodfire Grill and Zebra Lounge. When he's not busy creating new inventory for the store, he's working to break into the food business with a bubble tea and coffee stand. With Small Business Saturday on the horizon, he encourages everyone to support local businesses by shopping small every chance they get, and not just one day a year.
