Kate's Downtown brings back quick-serve lunch options

Enjoy the decor while grabbing a quick lunch at Kate's Downtown
The scene is eerily familiar, it's nearly lunchtime and you need to grab some food, but can't spare a full hour, or even half hour, away from work.

You head to your favorite place only to find there's a line out the door.

Kate's Downtown, 231 Huron Ave. in downtown Port Huron, is looking to simplify the process, and take away the hassle of waiting by once again offering a grab and go option for the lunch crowd. Owner Katie Voss says the cafe served the sack lunch about five years ago, but the demand wasn't there. Kate's popularity today has made them rethink the idea.

"At lunch, the line gets so long in here and some people only get 30 minutes for lunch," Voss says. "We want them to be able to just grab and go."

For $10, patrons can grab a freshly-made lunch --currently featuring Huron Avenue or turkey provolone sandwiches, a pickle and a bag of chips. Just grab a bag, pay any employee, or stuff the payment in the coffee honor box, and head back to the office. Bags are located in the beverage cooler. Need a drink, too? Throw in an extra $2 for any bottled beverage in the cooler. As an added bonus, every five grab 'n go purchases earns guests a free bottled drink.

Patrons looking for something a little bit different to eat can take advantage of the new carryout table. Call in a carryout order and lunch will be waiting for you in Carryout Pickup Land, so it is easy to snag.

Stop by Kate's between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays.
