What’s happening: A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house was held in celebration of OnPoint Allegan’s new facility and headquarters in Allegan. OnPoint, which was formerly called Allegan County Community Health before a summer 2022 rebranding, is the community mental health agency for all of Allegan County.

(Photo: Facebook)What they built: OnPoint acquired the old Shopko building at 540 Jenner Dr. in Allegan and began its redevelopment in January 2022. The 36,000 sq. ft. facility will officially open on Monday, May 8. The move allows the mental health agency to consolidate its two locations into one building, where they’ll offer a full range of services treating “mental illness, substance use disorders, developmental/intellectual disability, emotional disturbances in children and support for their families,” as it reads
on their website.

How they did it: OnPoint successfully secured a $5,635,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development toward the purchase and redevelopment of the former Shopko Optical building, converting it into a fully functional mental health services facility.
What they’re saying: “This is a particularly good example of how USDA is able to work with communities to provide better, more accessible facilities, which in turn improves the quality of care,” USDA Rural Development State Director for Michigan Brandon Fewins says in a statement. “This investment will benefit Allegan County residents for many years to come and it is great to see all the work that went into this project come to fruition.”
