Montana hospitality company acquires west Michigan glamping destination for new nature-based brand

What’s happening: A blueberry farm-glamping destination in west Michigan was recently acquired by the Montana-based Under Canvas. The upscale outdoor hospitality company has launched their new Outdoor Collection around The Fields of Michigan, as well as the Bar N Ranch lodge in West Yellowstone, Montana.

What it is: The Fields of Michigan first opened in 2019, offering glamping sites, or luxury camping, by way of tents and cottages on a working blueberry farm outside of South Haven. The 30 acre-property hosts weddings, a Supper Club on weekends, and other events, with amenities that include complimentary bikes for guests, massage services, pool, and access to the blueberry fields for picking.

Welcome back campers: The Fields camp will reopen to guests on Thursday, May 1, and close for the season on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Who’s behind it: Based in Belgrade, Montana, Under Canvas operates more than a dozen upscale outdoor hospitality sites throughout the country, and largely in the American West. Sites are often near National Parks, with the Michigan property becoming a rare exception.

Berry good: The Fields of Michigan joins a growing company. In addition to their acquiring the Michigan and Montana sites, Under Canvas will also open two new campsites for the 2025 season with an 80-acre camp outside of Yosemite National Park and a 120-acre site along the Columbia River Gorge in Washington.

"At Under Canvas, our commitment to providing an unparalleled experience is unwavering," says Matt Gaghen, CEO of Under Canvas. "Our continued growth and evolution, from the upcoming launch of our new camps in Yosemite and the Columbia River Gorge, to the enhanced amenities and refreshed spaces across our existing locations, reflects our ongoing commitment to elevating the guest experience and finding more ways to enhance access to the outdoors."

The Fields of Michigan is located at 154 68th St. in South Haven.
