LotusVoice offers holistic health, wellness activities in repurposed East Lansing facility

People seeking relief from everyday stress or alternatives to managing some physical symptoms will find a variety of options through LotusVoice Integrated Therapies.

From massage and yoga to pilates and tai chi, LotusVoice offers professional services and classes by skilled providers and instructors that can complement traditional therapies and medical care.

Founder Ginger Yang opened the doors on the 2,100 square foot facility in October 2013 that includes four private rooms and 900 square feet of classroom space. The facility on Park Lake Road, Yang says, used to be a print shop, but with some TLC and minor remodeling, LotusVoice joined the community health-minded businesses on the eastern edge of East Lansing.

"There are a lot of people in this area who are open to alternative medicine and approaches," says Yang. "Eventually, I would like to add to my services for people who want to try a non-pharmaceutical way to feel better and focus on mind-body-and-spirit."

Yang plans to have up to four independent contractors operating in LotusVoice by mid-February, and hopes to add a practitioner in Chinese medicine in the coming year. Her current line-up includes two massage therapists, one social worker, and a holistic health practitioner, as well as a variety of classes focused on improving health and energy. Yang herself is a certified music therapist with extensive experience working in hospital and hospice-care settings.

Christie Cohen is among the massage therapists working within Yang's facility since mid-November. As the owner of Seeking Serenity Massage, Cohen provides massage services that focus on the use of essential oils and zero in on particular "energy points."

"In general, people do massage to relax," says Cohen. "But I see it for people who are suffering and in pain. Lots of people think of it as a luxury, but it can be preventive and some insurance do reimburse for it. For me, it's just part of a healthy regime."
