104,000-s ft Okemos Target receives remodel, adds jobs

Local Target stores are about to look very different. The first of the three Lansing-area branches to undergo a store-wide remodel is the Okemos location, which is already seeing an uptick in job opportunities a quarter of the way through the process.

“It’s part of getting what we’ve phrased our ‘P-Fresh stores’ into the grocery line,” says Todd Bosanic, Executive for Hard Lines for the Okemos Target. “We’re also adding a Starbucks inside the store.”

All 104,000-square feet of the store will be upgraded in the remodel, but the most dramatic change will be the addition of about 100 coolers and freezers for produce and other groceries.

The store, which typically employs around 112 during non-seasonal months, was able to keep the approximately 40 recently-hired seasonal employees to help staff the store’s remodel, and eventually, its new departments.

“We’ll keep some of those remodel team members and share some with the other stores when they begin their remodels,” says Bosanic. “We are always hiring. We definitely have open positions.”

The store-wide remodel began December 27 and is slated for completion by March 26.
