Media: Jobs Landed

As part of a new contract between the Greater Lansing Business Monthly and M3 Group, I have added the title of Editor of the Greater Lansing Business Monthly to my duties at M3 Group - a full-service branding agency in Lansing founded by Tiffany Dowling. As editor of the GLBM I am responsible for overseeing the production of the monthly publication, which has been sharing positive business news with the Lansing community for more than 25 years. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: working closely with publisher Chris Holman to generate story and photo ideas and concepts. I am in charge of assigning stories and photos, art direction, editing all copy in the magazine, handling print management, working with the editorial board to determine the editorial calendar, helping to coordinate social media needs, overseeing the website, assisting GLBM events coordinator on collateral material needs, attending events as GLBM representative. The contract also brought production of the Michigan Hospitality Review, published by the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, to M3 Group. I work with the editor of that publication on production and layout needs as well as any art direction assistance I can offer.

As a Video Journalist, I'm a one-woman-band out in the field. I shoot, write, edit, and appear on camera for all of my stories, which can range from police investigations to museum exhibit openings. I never know where the day might take me.

My duties include market research, client research, assisting with project proposals and production. I am also responsible for general office assistant duties as well as other duties as assigned.  I chose this position because I wanted to expand my skill set. Ideally, I would like to eventually be in some sort of media or broadcast company role where I am a sales assistant or account manager, or some sort of client service role.

I create, facilitate and execute promotions to expand awareness of City Pulse, I have been the primary administrator for marketing our brand through social media, business and trade expo's, cross marketing relationships, etc. and, for the most part, I have been the lone salesman for City Pulse.

As Director of New Business Development at King Media, I am the driving force behind King Media's Client Development. The role encompasses growing the agencies portfolio of clients and supporting the agencies core value of increasing our client's sales and profits. My career spans more than three decades in management, sales, marketing, and building companies. My work ethic, leadership and business acumen lead to the dealership where I worked achieving the honor of "Top 10 in the Country in Sales" for Tiara Yachts for nearly 10 consecutive years.

I have aligned myself with entrepreneurs and a wide range of businesses. I am as comfortable working with a sole proprietor as I am a high net worth individual. As a Boat Captain of a Corporate Yacht dating back to the 80's, I come to King Media with a diverse skill set.

I have worked with MessageMakers on a contract basis for some months, writing scripts for Fortune 500 company executives, association executives, and more to perform at high-profile events; creating new instructional content for training courses reaching 3,000 participants this year; and developing several websites. I have 11+ years of website development experience designing usable, focused websites for small business and nonprofit clients. I have also coordinated clients' social media networking and marketing efforts.

I am co-founder of the Capital Area Community Media Center, a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and the chair of the Lansing Cable and Telecommunications Advisory Board. As such, I have 8 years of community technology and communications experience. My graduate work in Michigan State University's Digital Rhetoric and Professional Writing program gave me a broad basis of knowledge about various means of communicating in online and print formats. 

In the past, I have been a meeting services executive and membership director with Photo Marketing Association International. There, I planned domestic and international events drawing as many as 32,000 attendees, coordinated all event logistics, and saved his association $320,000 (out of a $740,000 annual convention budget) through negotiations with vendors.

MessageMakers is a full-service production company specializing in live events, video production and learning programs - and, ultimately, producing experiences that transform. The company has won over 40 awards for its work and community efforts over the past decade.

I am currently developing business processes for UZoom that will leverage the local talent pool and specific dynamics of the market. That means developing marketing solutions and technology products that will help small to medium sized businesses succeed in reaching sales goals. As an award-winning Creative Director, I have helped businesses succeed in a wide-variety of messaging products. I am in charge of all creative for the company, from web to graphic to print to radio and of course...to film and video.

I found my job by networking with a former associate. So it goes to show that you should always keep in touch with your network; and that never to burn any bridges!

We are focused on providing the tools every organization needs now and will need in the future. It's our job to make sure that the client's resources are put to the most effective use.

I'm a videographer/editor for CAS Media. I chose to come back to Michigan after living in Chicago for a year--working in the fast-paced downtown scene wasn't what I was looking for, and I wanted to come back for my Masters degree at Michigan State University. After working with a colleague as a TA in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, he offered me the position at CAS Media when I graduated. We typically produce videos for grant-funded projects in departments around the University, so the work is very diverse and always educational. We've worked on media for the Sustainable Michigan Endowed Project, the Michigan Energy Efficiency Network, a state-wide program for Head Start, and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. It's exciting to be part of a small team that turns work around very fast.

I do graphic design. Mostly printed pieces, but some web design also. I also do alot of photography here. I got into graphic design in high school with the direction of my sister who owns a graphic design and web design company in Alexandria, VA called Simpatico Design Studio. She helped me take necessary classes and I started to love it and then I went to college for it. I took many graphic design jobs and internships until I found the internship at MessageMakers using MSU's career website. So I started as a graphic design intern fall 2009 and then continued until December. They decided to take me on as a part time contractor after that until September 2010. At that point they brought me on as a full-time employee. The best thing about my job is the relaxed and comfortable office setting. I also get to do some traveling with them to video and learning events all over the country. I love to travel so this makes the job even more enjoyable.

I broadcast five reports daily of agricultural news and market updates including Rural Spotlight, The Daily Dairy Report, The Opening Market Update, The Mid-Day Ag Market and News Update and The Noon Report across the state to our 25 affiliate stations and a combined audience of 250,000 listeners.  I also cover events and news affecting Michigan agriculture, and provide sponsorship opportunities to industry businesses and organizations.
