Insider Guide: Missy Werbish SanMiguel

Missy Werbish SanMiguel was born and raised in St. Johns. She attended Grand Valley State University where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in health communications, then returned to the area after completing school. After working at a homecare and hospice agency in Lansing and a nursing home in Carson City, she is now the Marketing and Admissions Director at Hazel Findlay Nursing Home, and finds that being a familiar name within the community helps with the comfort level of families seeking her assistance.

Missy is a huge golfer and loves the Emerald Golf Course, which is a big attraction in the area. Motz Park is also a popular place to go with lake access and a huge gazebo that is free for families to use. The Sleepy Hollow State Park, only 12 miles outside of town, is another very popular place people go to boat, fish and camp.

For dining, Missy recommends the Main Street Café and the Hitching Post as two good restaurants. Ryan’s Roadhouse is a popular bar and restaurant in the area, and for a little Latin flavor the Cancun Mexican Grill is a lively, colorful place. Missy also admits to having quite the soft spot for Applebee’s.

The annual Mint Festival is very popular with a carnival, 150 vendors selling food, arts and crafts, war reenactments, tennis and basketball tournaments, a parade, a beer tent, a zoo – over 60,000 people come into town for this event every year.

For ladies (and hey, gents too) looking for a little pampering, Missy recommends Nicole’s Salon and Day Spa. They carry Aveda products and offering hair services, manicures and pedicures, massages, and also offer service for wedding parties and proms. Missy says her perfect day is a day of gold at the Emerald followed by a massage and pedicure!
